Fred W. Rolls enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 30, 1940. Two years later, he was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to an unstated camp where 9,012 other American POWs were held. Fred’s capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 7, 1942, and the last report was made on September 29, 1942. Based on these two reports, he was imprisoned for at least 145 days (~5 months). Fred died while in Prisoner of War status.
